Looking back, going forward…

From the very start of my journey with clay, I was interested in sculptural shapes. In my college days I would play around with de-constructing shapes to re-assemble them creating new profiles. My early work, when I first set up my studio, concentrated on shape in this way using simple undecorated forms. I have never lost my fascination with these more sculptural shapes alongside my thrown work. Revisiting some of these shapes led me to produce some new designs but this time with a decorative element, the flat surfaces and sharp angles leading the designs in a new direction. I also enjoy the way these sculptural shapes can be placed differently to vessels in an interior setting. They occupy a space with a dynamic energy.
